Wherever containers are affected by biofilm, the prevention of further growth is a major issue.
Microorganisms bacteria and other pathogenic micro-organisms are present everywhere in the environment. . They are often found in tank water. When containers have an open return system, microorganisms can spread from air to water. Microorganisms can multiply quickly when a substrate is present and a number of conditions are ideal for microbial growth.

Examples of these factors are pH, temperature, oxygen concentration and nutrients. The nutrient content in the water increases due to evaporation and leakage. Water consumption can also increase the nutrient content in the water. Higher nutrient content can cause problems. Especially in containers in warm ambient temperatures, growth is difficult to prevent. Biocides, alkalis and acids are a widely used remedy against growth. Reduce this problem to a minimum and replace the use of toxic biocides and similar chemistry with professional ultrasound systems. On 19 July 2017, the Ordinance on Evaporation Cooling Systems, Cooling Towers and Wet Separators (42.BImSchV) entered into force. All systems where water comes into contact with an air flow are prone to aerosol formation. Tank plants have therefore long been known as a possible source of Legionella-containing aerosols. According to the latest findings, they pose a much higher risk of developing legionellosis than drinking water.
